Col Jennifer Hlavaty

Colonel Jennifer Hlavaty is the Commander of the 435th Air and Space Communications Group, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. She leads 547 Airmen in three diverse squadrons providing United States Air Forces in Europe’s only combat communications, specialized maintenance, and command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems support for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, United States European Command, and United States Africa Command. Her responsibilities include combat readiness of theater deployable communications assets valued at $150 million; operations and maintenance of the theater’s Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System and Global Command and Control System as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance networks serving 2,200 users at 22 operating locations; and specialized maintenance of communications systems valued at $10 billion across the command’s 104-country Area of Responsibility.

Colonel Hlavaty received her commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1997. She has commanded two squadrons, the 33d Combat Communications Squadron and the 407th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, and has served in a variety of staff assignments. As a Joint Doctrine Development Officer for the Joint Staff, she developed the technical portfolio of joint and NATO doctrine to include cyberspace and electromagnetic spectrum operations. Most recently, she served as the Theater Operations Division Chief for the Headquarters, United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa Directorate of Communications. Colonel Hlavaty has served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
